The Prime Minister Boris Johnson has this afternoon made an oral statement to Parliament on the COVID-19 Winter Plan.

He outlined the government plan for managing COVID-19 through the end of 2020 and into the start of 2021 which was published today alongside a summary.

It was confirmed that national restrictions in England will end next Wednesday (2 December). Instead there will be a regional tiered approach, applying the toughest measures where Covid is most prevalent.

Guidance was also published setting out the local restriction tier system that will be in place from Wednesday 2 December, including what you can and cannot do in each tier. Later this week, the government will announce which areas will fall into which tier – the Prime Minister said he hoped this would be on Thursday.

To allow families to come together at Christmas, while minimizing the risk, the government is working with the Devolved Administrations on a special, time-limited Christmas dispensation for the whole of the UK.
