Met Office reports show that it’s been the warmest March and April since records began in 1884, particularly in South East England. The latest data shows that rainfall in the south east of England up to mid-June was 36% of the Long-Term Average. This combination of heat and sunshine, coupled with very low rainfall, has created challenging conditions across much of the country for agriculture and water resources.
Top tips to conserve water include:
- Add a cover to paddling pools to ensure they can be used more than once and when finished reuse the water in the garden.
- Put the jet wash away for now. If you need to wash your car, please use a bucket and sponge instead.
- Collect clean cold water from baths, showers and sinks whilst waiting for it to heat up and reuse elsewhere, such as in the garden.
- There’s no need to water lawns, they’re designed to go golden and withstand hot summer months. It will bounce back again when it rains again.
